Quit Smoking. Because YOU Want To!
Smoking is a surefire way of wrecking your body and destroying any benefits you may get from eating well and exercising regularly.
The damage smoking causes really is too much of a compromise in relation to the pleasure you get from it.
To quit smoking can be seen as difficult if you have smoked for years but it can be done with help from the correct sources and products, and more importantly, with the will to do it. Now, when I say you need the "will" to do it, I am not talking about you thinking that you should quit smoking... I don't believe that is enough!
You need to want to quit smoking. And I mean really WANT to!In my opinion you really are wasting your time if you attempt to quit smoking because your partner has asked you to, you feel you can't afford it, or any other reason that is forced upon you and that doesn't come from within yourself. You need to make a choice for your own reasons. By all means take on board the opinions, feelings and health of those around you as this can help you to make up your mind, but just make sure you make up your mind to do it because you have decided to. It's the only way it'll work long term. I personally smoked for over 10 years, from the age of just 14 years old. It's not something I'm proud of and I'm glad I eventually managed to kick the habit...after a few failed attempts! When getting into the Health & Fitness industry and having the idea to launch this website, I wanted to get myself into perfect physical condition, on the inside as well as the outside of my body. I knew it would hinder my progress and be hypocritical of me to continue to smoke, so I decided to quit. This is my example of a reason to quit that is for yourself...and I believe this is the reason I have kicked the habit for good.
So, along with this will to give up, I looked to the market to see what products were available to help me. Now, I'm sure anyone reading this page is well aware of the products available, for example, nicotine patches, nicotine gum and the nicotine inhalers etc so I don't think there's any need for me to go into real detail about what's out there...suffice to say, do your research and pick what suits you! What I felt would suit me were 24 Hour Nicotine Patches and regular sugar-free chewing gum. I used the patches to wean me off the nicotine gradually and the gum to keep my mouth busy! NOTE: This was standard, sugar-free chewing gum - NOT Nicotine Gum! You cannot use both products together. I felt this would give me the best chance of quitting cigarettes for good and it worked! I don't think it particularly matters which brand of patches you choose to use. Just ensure you follow the instructions carefully and rigidly and complete the full course of treatment (usually 3 months). The benefits to your health are truly staggering! You will begin to benefit from giving up smoking almost instantly! - After just 20 minutes, your blood pressure and pulse returns to normal. Circulation will improve, especially in your hands and feet.
- After 8 hours, blood oxygen levels increase to normal and your chances of having a heart attack begin to fall.
- After 24 hours, carbon monoxide leaves the body. You will begin to clear out mucus and debris from your lungs.
- After 48 hours, your body will be nicotine-free. Your senses of taste and smell will now begin to improve.
- After 3 days, breathing is easier and your energy levels increase.
- From 2-12 weeks, circulation improves throughout the entire body. Walking and other exercise begins to get easier.
- From 3-9 months, breathing problems, coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing improve. Lung efficiency will have increased by 5-10%!
- After 5 years, risk of having a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker!
- After 10 years, risk of lung cancer falls to around half that of a smoker. Risk of a heart attack falls to about the same as someone who has never smoked!
So, as you can see there are definitely some huge benefits to be had by quitting smoking. In addition to the ones above you will also look better, smell better and save a whole load of cash.
If you smoked around 20 cigarettes a day then within a year of quitting you would save enough money to pay for an amazing family holiday! It's surprising how quickly it mounts up.If you're serious about your health and want to look and feel good then you need to quit smoking. But remember, do it because you want to! Good Luck, LiveGoodRicky ;)
