A Definition of Physical Fitness

What is the definition of physical fitness? Fitness can be hard to define due to people's differing abilities, goals and ambitions, but we will try here to do just that.

One thing we're sure of is that you can always get fitter! Whether you're the local Homer Simpson or the world triathlon champion, there are always new goals and challenges to target to push yourself onto a higher level of fitness.

definition of physical fitness, benefit of physical fitness, definition of fitness So the definition of physical fitness could have different meanings for different people, depending on what their current level of fitness is and what their targeted level of fitness is.

We at LiveGood think of someone being of ideal physical fitness when they're in the perfect condition as intended by nature.

By which we mean they eat a wide variety of healthy foods, including lean proteins, wholegrains and fruits etc, while shunning processed and high-fat foods.

They would also exercise regularly and not smoke cigarettes or drink excessive amounts of alcohol. They would have low body-fat and would be able to run, jump and swim without falling to the floor afterwards!

But is that the definition of physical fitness? It would seem too simple an answer...

Maybe it would also mean having a strong immune system to keep illness at bay. And a strong mind to ensure you are not bogged-down by society's mental stresses and strains.

The truth is, the definition of physical fitness includes a wide variety of small ideas that go hand-in-hand with each other and work together to achieve the ultimate goal.

Each aspect of fitness is as important as the next, and you should focus on your own personal weak points to ensure your overall fitness levels are as high as you want them to be.

In our opinion one perfect, definitive example of physical fitness shouldn't be looked for.

The best thing you can do is decide what your personal goals are, whether it's to lose a few pounds, quit smoking or build a chest Arnie would be proud of, and then work towards those goals at your own pace and in the right way.

Ignore any outside pressures to be society's idea of perfect and just focus on your own health and fitness goals.

You can use this website to get all the information you need to help you make the right choices and set the right goals.

If you want to quit smoking or improve any other aspect of your overall health, you should check out the articles in our Health Center.

If it's fitness tips and advice you need, try our Fitness Depot. Or if it's nutrition facts and information you want, use our Nutrition Facts section.
