Top 10 Tips For Boosting Brain Power
and Fighting Alzheimer's!

Is your brain fitness and mental health important to you? Would you like to boost your brain fitness, improve memory and protect against Alzheimer's?

Well there are many ways that you can do this!

brain fitness, power of the mind, brain training, brain matter, improve memory, alzheimers Ok, so maybe you feel you're too young to worry about brain degeneration, memory loss and diseases like Alzheimers.

And it's true that these types of problems do normally affect the over-65's.

What is also true however, is that what you do as early as your twenties is very important to keeping your mind sharp and protecting you from brain disease later in life.

There is evidence that suggests a healthy diet and lifestyle helps boost brain fitness and reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer's by upto 30%!

So, if you want to keep your wits about you and think smart into old age, just follow these top ten tips!

1 - Exercise More!

Regular cardiovascular activity benefits the brain in many ways, the main one being increased capillary development, which helps fill your brain with more blood, nutrients and oxygen.

Exercising regularly may also help to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's - by a staggering 40% - by increasing the number of blood vessels in the brain.

2 - Get Out In The Sun

Sunshine provides us with vitamin D, which can help promote overall brain fitness, health, development and function, while also helping to keep depression at bay.

A recent study has also shown that people with low levels of vitamin D were two and a half times more likely to be cognitively impaired, so get outside for a regular dose of sunlight!

3 - Brain Training

Playing games that test your mental ability, like crosswords or Sudoku, helps to promote new cell development and stop the decline in brain function.

So, brain training actually works! Sounds like a good excuse to buy yourself a new Nintendo 3DS!

4 - Get More Sleep

Seven to eight hours of top quality sleep per night is essential, due to the toxic proteins it prevents from building up in your brain, which can eventually lead to Alzheimer's.

Halving the time to just 4 hours a night could increase the production of these deadly toxins by upto 25%!

5 - Use Your Brain!

Surprising your brain with unusual activities, like brushing your teeth or eating with your 'wrong' hand, can cause new circuits to be formed in the parts of the brain that control and process tactile information.

This could add another 10 or more years to your brain's useful functionality.

6 - Drink Milk

Help prevent memory loss and dementia by adding more milk to your diet. It contains vitamin B12, and it's been shown that people with low levels of this in their blood are 6 times more likely to suffer from grey matter shrinkage.

Another option to help get more of this vital vitamin is to eat more fish.

7 - Be Careful Who You Kiss!

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus, which is responsible for over 50% of all Alzheimer's cases, so kissing someone with a cold sore can increase your chances of developing the brain disease.

There are steps you can take if you suffer from cold sores however, just use some lip balm that's at least factor 15 and you'll prevent the virus from being reactivated when you're out in the sun.

8 - Eat Berries

Diets rich in berries, especially the blue variety, can boost motor skills and the ability to learn and recall information by enhancing brain cell connections and combating damaging free radicals.

Blueberries can also help fight off age-related brain diseases.

9 - Drink Red Wine

A recent study has shown that those who drink red wine score far higher in cognitive ability tests.

However, other studies have shown that alcohol numbs the brains ability to detect threats, so it's wise to stick to daily limit guidelines to get the benefits without the problems!

10 - Eat Curry!

Curries containing turmeric could help overall brain fitness and health. Turmeric contains curcumin, which can help keep your brain cells clear of a type of plaque called amyloid beta.

This plaque is thought to be the hallmark of the beginning of Alzheimer's. Curcumin helps to stimulate the immune system and clear the brain of it.
